A Tenugui is a traditional Japanese cotton cloth known for its lightweight, quick-drying, and highly versatile nature.
This Tenugui is made in Japan using chusen, a traditional Japanese dyeing technique. Unlike surface printing, chusen allows the dye to soak through the cotton fabric, giving the tenugui a soft feel and rich color on both sides. Subtle bleeding, unevenness, and variations in color are natural characteristics of this hand-dyeing process, making each piece slightly unique.
It can be used as a towel, scarf, headband, wrap, pack cloth, or simple utility cloth. The unfinished edges help it dry quickly and allow it to be easily torn by hand when needed, making it useful in emergency situations as tinder, cordage, or a field repair material.
Simple, practical, and easy to carry, the tenugui has long been loved by hikers, climbers, and people who spend time in the mountains in Japan.
